Technology at RELEX  

The RELEX Price and Promotion application runs cloud-native on Google Cloud Platform and is a mix of Golang backend services and a Typescript/React single-page application. True Gophers will appreciate that our data platform also runs using Golang and Cadence/Temporal workflows, ingesting and enriching millions of rows of raw customer data into a hybrid data layer driven by ClickHouse and Postgres. We serve these enormous data sets and sales forecasts through a mix of pre-calculated and on-the-fly analytics that must be both user-friendly and responsive.

Join us as Head of Engineering, Application, and this is some of what you’ll be doing: 

The technology teams in the Price and Promotion area of RELEX are split into three domains: Infrastructure, Data and Application. In this role, you’ll lead the engineering efforts of our cross-functional teams developing the application our customers interact with daily.  

This is a hard job. You will be challenged as an engineer—growing scalable solutions for demanding customers and helping to chart the future of complex software as it matures in a complex domain. You will be challenged as a leader—increasing department headcount to meet the ambitions in our roadmap and cultivating the careers and potential of a multicultural team with varied backgrounds. 

This is how you will spend your days: 

  • Create a collaborative and inclusive team environment that fosters innovation and growth, primarily by mentoring the team leads within your department. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams ensuring software development best practices are followed, including code quality, scalability, performance, and security, to achieve successful project outcomes. 
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, team health and overall staff management.  
  • Drive user-friendly, fast, and intuitive product development by mentoring and demonstrating effective project management. 
  • Collaborate with other engineering leaders on deployment processes using Google Cloud Run and facilitate efficient data access from platforms such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, and Postgres. 
  • Support product and sales in interactions with our customers, explaining RELEX architecture and technical strategy. 
  • Participate in software development efforts when needed. 

We’re looking for: 

  • A track-record of successful leadership in a similar role, ideally within a multinational and dynamic environment, showcasing a history of delivering high-quality software products while nurturing a motivated and cohesive team. 
  • Proficiency in software development, with the ability to lead and guide a diverse team of back-end and front-end developers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, ensuring clear and efficient communication of project goals and progress.
  • Experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation, to drive successful and timely project deliveries.
  • A deep understanding of software development best practices, including code quality, scalability, performance, and security, and the ability to mentor team members in these areas.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to provide technical guidance and direction to resolve complex issues and challenges that may arise during the software development process.
