Time to make your Mondays more bearable
No this is not a song, it is a fact that I am sure is shared by many people in retail. Not because you have to get up and go to work, or at least it would not be, if you didn’t know that when you get to work it is the dreaded Monday morning trading meeting. This invariably means a witch hunt for the supply chain who are in the firing line for operations, buying, marketing, finance and senior management. Why? Because you either have too little stock so you have lost the company valuable sales, and some of your colleagues their bonus, or you have too much stock in which case you have cost the company money and increased shrinkage, again costing someone their bonus!
It can become a living hell. On the one occasion you get it just right then nothing is said, no praise or thanks because that is expected of you.
For many years in retail I lived that life, never knowing who was going to be firing bullets at me but knowing someone would be. However, it does not have to be like that….really. With state of the art supply chain optimisation solutions you can get it right most of the time and deliver great results for your colleagues plus a huge injection of cash into the business from reduced inventory.
You won’t get any thanks for it, the IT guys will take the credit for it…but it will make Monday mornings much more bearable!
