In cooperation with Finland’s leading chain of book stores, Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, RELEX hosted a breakfast meeting at the Retail Conference 2010. The topic of the session was: “Increase your profit through highly automated store replenishment”. The Retail Conference is the UK’s leading industry focused event for senior decision makers in the retail sector. The Retail Conference 2010 took place in London on September 22nd.

The workshop was opened by Dr. Mikko Kärkkäinen, CEO of RELEX, who demonstrated the immense benefits that are available to retailers who choose to move from simple, ERP-driven store replenishment to highly automated, science-based replenishment. Dr Kärkkäinen pointed out that savings from automated replenishment for mid-sized retail chain are typically hundreds of thousands of Euros per year.

The practical implications of implementing advanced replenishment automation and optimisation were presented by Pekka Kuurne, Development Manager at Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, Finland’s leading chain of stores selling books and stationery, which has been using RELEX’s software since 2008. The workshop participants, supply chain professionals from leading retail companies in the UK, were especially impressed when Mr. Kuurne described Suomalainen Kirjakauppa’s current, highly efficient store replenishment process: replenishment orders for all 63 stores are managed by only one logistics planner.

Both the presentations were very well received by the audience, who presented insightful questions and comments. Moreover, the conference offered excellent opportunities for informal discussions and networking with other participants.
