RELEX Solutions’ annual Retail and Supply Chain Award is given to the best European master’s thesis in the field of retail and supply chain planning. The award has been handed out since 2014 and is given to the best master’s thesis with a focus on retail and supply chain planning.

This year, the Retail and Supply Chain Award and reward of 2000 euros were granted to Daniel Schmidt from Kühne Logistics University in Germany for his research “Serialization in the pharmaceutical industry and the value beyond compliance”.

The jury was impressed by the clever topic and challenging perspective of Schmidt’s research. They also appreciated the systematic approach, with several layers of analysis, and the clear and concise expression.

The jury consisted of Prof. Dr. Kai Fröstl from the German Graduate School of Management & Law, Prof. Jan Holmström from Aalto University, RELEX Solutions Chairman of the Board, Andrew Blatherwick, and leading logistics and supply chain scientists Timo Ala-Risku, Tuomas Viitanen and Timo Idänheimo from RELEX Solutions.

“I am really delighted to receive this award,” says Schmidt. “By looking to the whole value chain of pharmaceuticals, starting from manufacturing until sale at the stores, the results show how breaking out of functional silos will be a critical success factor for future cutting-edge supply chain improvements. The technology and data are already there: supply chain actors just need to open their mindset and start managing value chains more collaboratively.”

The application period for RELEX Retail and Supply Chain Award 2019 is already open. Details of the competition can be found here.
