RELEX Season’s Greetings Calendar 2018

News»RELEX Season’s Greetings Calendar 2018

Instead of shipping presents all over the world, we spread our holiday joy by doing charitable work and supporting good causes.

For the last few years, we’ve found it to be a meaningful way to give back to our communities for the holidays and actually help those in need.

Throughout December, we will share stories and pictures on this page of the activities we’ve done in Europe and North America. Hopefully you enjoy our season’s greetings as much as we enjoyed spending time with the wonderful people and animals we met through these charities.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

Fundraiser Trio (Team UK)

Collecting donations for the homeless wasn’t enough for our RELEX teams in Stoke and London! So they donned their most outrageous Christmas jumpers to raise funds for both the Douglas Macmillan Hospice and Save the Children UK. In addition, team Stoke organized a Christmas hamper raffle to raise even more money for the hospice, while our co-workers in London hosted a bake-sale, with all proceeds going to Save the Children UK. In true RELEX fashion, they had a lot of fun doing it all – but see for yourself.

Furry Friends (Team Germany)

Each year, hundreds of thousands of animals are lost or abandoned in Germany. Animal shelters play an important role in rehabilitating these pets. As non-profit organizations, they rely heavily on volunteers, so our RELEX team lent a helping hand at the animal shelter Tierheim Mainz. There, veterinary professionals and caretakers foster various pets, find them new homes, and monitor their long term well-being. Our co-workers cleaned cages, cuddled and played with their new furry friends, and helped them rebuild their trust in humans.

Taking Our Shelves Seriously (Team USA)

We at RELEX spend a lot of time thinking about food retail, but it’s important to remember how many people in our communities can’t just run to the store when they’re hungry. Grace Community Food Pantry provides much-needed groceries to individuals and families in need, serving hundreds of our most underserved neighbors each month. Our team in Atlanta spent a fulfilling — and fun! — day with the amazing staff at the Food Pantry helping to unload, package, and shelve a delivery of produce, meat, and breads donated by local grocery stores.

Warm and Fuzzy (Team UK)

UK winters can get uncomfortable. RELEXians from Stoke and London filled several donation boxes with clothing and accessories that the homeless really need. When it came to turning the donations into care packages, our co-workers teamed up with YMCA North Staffordshire: Not only did the YMCA distribute the donations to regional shelters, our RELEXians also got to spend quality time with young people who helped them sort the care packages. A great opportunity to prove that there are people who care about those in need.

Hope for Paws (Team Finland)

This year, the Finnish RELEX team focused on helping animals. HESY, The Helsinki Society for Animal Protection, aims to protect animals by providing aid to homeless animals and giving advice on animal protection and care. In the last 20 years, the society has fostered and adopted out 20 000 homeless animals. In 2017, they rescued 477 abandoned pets and offered them a better life. To support these efforts, our team spent a Saturday cleaning the facilities and socializing with the animals to get them ready for their forever home.

Royal Clean-up (Team Norway)

Our Norwegian team spent a day cleaning beaches at Bygdøy, a peninsula on the side of Oslo. This popular recreational area offers beaches and several trails for cycling and hiking. The clean-up was organized through Hold Norge Rent (Keep Norway Clean), an organization working to prevent environmental pollution and engage volunteer cleanups in the Norwegian nature. Numerous bags full of plastic and other waste including a 9 feet rubber boat (!) were collected. Our team even met the queen of Norway – but was too focused to recognize her.

Running for the Children (Team Sweden)

The organization UNICEF works across the world to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. Despite remarkable challenges around the world, UNICEF staffers fight for the rights of every child seeking safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disaster and conflicts, and equality. The RELEX team in Stockholm decided to support UNICEF through a donation and participation in the relay race ‘Stafesten for UNICEF’.
