– that was the big takeaway from IGD Wholesaling 2014 conference
The major annual gathering of the UK’s wholesale sector, organised by the Institute of Grocery Distribution and held in London on September 11, focused on the themes of insight, partnerships and technology.
RELEX UK’s Managing Director Tommi Ylinen, who took part in a panel discussion on differentiation in grocery wholesale, says the consensus was that technology is set to be the great enabler.
“Wholesaling is increasingly about partnerships both with suppliers and clients,” says Ylinen. “Businesses are increasingly thinking about the entire supply chain and not just the part of it they control.”
“This shift to thinking about the shared supply chain also requires mutual insight – great visibility across the whole chain and an understanding of the needs and challenges of one’s partners in the supply chain,” Ylinen adds. “And that is where good technology comes in – it provides the links and data that enable the others.”
Among other leading industry figures to address the event was Mushtaque Ahmed, COO of JJ Food Service Ltd. His talk, “Technology Led Engagement-Making Life Easier for Our Partners” focused on the impact of implementing RELEX technology.
JJ is marking one year since it rolled out RELEX systems across its operations. Tommi Ylinen, Mushtaque Ahmed and David Shukri, Head of Channel Insight at the IGD referred to the joint project with RELEX at various points during their presentations.
