Lead Software Engineer | Space & Assortment

We are looking for a Lead Software Developer to join the Space and Assortment team. This role is critical to shaping the architecture of an advanced retail optimization platform used by global industry leaders. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and product stakeholders to define scalable, maintainable, and forward-looking software solutions, while also mentoring developers and championing technical excellence.

We use a large variety of technologies every day, so we value a passion for learning new things and the ability to apply your skills in practice. We expect you to be a seasoned engineer with multiple past projects and experience as a trusted technology leader and mentor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and evolve the technical architecture of our Space Planning product suite
• Make high-level design decisions and establish coding standards, tooling strategies, and architectural patterns
• Collaborate with product and design teams to ensure technical feasibility and scalability of features
• Mentor and support senior and junior developers, fostering architectural thinking and engineering excellence
• Contribute to key implementations in collaboration with other engineering teams
• Ensure performance, security, and scalability across the application stack
• Acting as a technical expert in architecture related discussions with RELEX clients

Previous Experience:

• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in architectural or technical lead roles
• Deep expertise in designing scalable full-stack web applications
• Proven ability to lead technical direction in a multi-team or cross-functional environment
• Experience with event-driven architecture, microservices, and cloud-native systems (Azure preferred)
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset for guiding teams and engaging stakeholders

What success looks like:

• We will agree on the exact focus area and project together based on your existing skillset. As an example of what we expect the first six months to look like could be as follows.
• Design and lead the implementation of a real-time data feed to power our customers’ operational and analytical needs
• Establish performance testing targets and observability metrics to ensure end-to-end scalability of a distributed application
• Improve on existing CI tooling, deployment pipelines and developer experience
• Coach senior developers to tech leads and foster a strong engineering culture
