Must-Wins for 2022: Faster, More Efficient Online and Omnichannel Fulfillment

Dec 14, 2021 2 min

RELEX Solutions will offer several presentations at NRF 2022 on the topic of improving speed and efficiency in online and omnichannel fulfillment. On Monday, January 17, RELEX will present on this subject at Booth #5553 at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. On Tuesday, January 18, RELEX and their online grocery customer JOKR will co-host a Big Ideas session: “Plan Better, Sell More, Waste Less: Learn How Online Grocery Retailer JOKR Is Optimizing Inventory, Space and Staff.”

These presentations will address the impact of the rise of quick commerce in the retail space and how the entire industry must evolve its processes to meet new customer expectations for convenience. Both quick commerce retailers and traditional retailers will learn how to improve fulfillment speed with high efficiency—whether their fulfillment windows are ten minutes or same-day—by optimizing the supply chain from the point of mobile order through picking and delivery to the customer’s doorstep.

Why Is Faster, More Efficient Omnichannel Fulfillment a Must-Win for 2022?

E-commerce continues to grow at a breakneck speed globally, bringing in $470B revenue in 2021 in the US alone. $20-25B of that revenue came from fast-growing quick commerce players, almost half of whom have been established since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Online channels are taking an increasing share of omnichannel sales, but the online space is also becoming more competitive with the influx of new players who can deliver on the promise of extreme speed. These young companies need a planning solution that scales quickly enough to support their explosive growth, while more established companies need to optimize their existing, often immature omnichannel processes to satisfy consumer expectations for speed and become more cost-efficient to protect online margin.

How Can Retailers Improve Fulfillment Speed and Efficiency?

RELEX’s presentations will describe how online and omnichannel retailers can leverage technology to increase efficiency throughout their fulfillment hubs. With a trend toward dense networks of dozens, even hundreds of micro-fulfillment centers located as close to the customer as possible, supply chain and space optimization become extremely important to reining in operational costs while driving sales.

Retailers need a unified solution capable of driving efficiency throughout supply chain, merchandizing, and workforce processes, using localized demand data to inform decisions at each hub and optimizing space and resources for efficiency and speed in picking.
