Perstorp Chooses RELEX AI-Driven Demand Planning to Support Global Operations

Swedish specialty chemicals company to improve forecast accuracy and improve commercial decisions with advanced demand planning capabilities

Perstorp, a global leader in specialty chemicals, has chosen to expand their use of RELEX Solutions, provider of unified supply chain and retail planning solutions, to implement machine learning (ML)-based demand planning. This is expected to improve Perstorp’s existing demand forecasting system, providing comprehensive capabilities designed to boost forecast accuracy, simplify processes, and deliver more reliable input for production facilities.

Founded in 1881, Perstorp supplies specialty polyols, renewable plasticizers, engineered fluids, and animal nutrition additives to customers in over 100 countries. With seven production sites and three R&D centers across Europe, North America, and Asia, in 2022, Perstorp became a wholly owned subsidiary of PETRONAS Chemicals Group (PCG).

To keep pace with its growth and increasingly complex markets, Perstorp will leverage RELEX demand planning and sensing solutions, which uses advanced ML algorithms to automatically deliver accurate, daily forecasts for individual products. This will reduce manual work for planners and improve how the company manages its sales and operations planning (S&OP).

“With our expanding goals and the rapid pace of market change, we recognized the need to evolve beyond our previous methods,” said Katrin Åkerlindh, Director Commercial Excellence at Perstorp. “RELEX will help us stay on top of customer demand across all channels and focus our resources where they create the most value, while making informed commercial decisions aligned with our business targets.”

Demand planning is a critical element of Perstorp’s processes, and this implementation is made to improve process coordination and to make it easier to generate appropriate insights. By integrating granular data, such as market inputs, they can align their operations more accurately to meet the demand fluctuations. This approach will reduce waste and inventory costs whilst empowering their team to make informed decisions across operational, tactical, and strategic horizons.

“We are pleased to support Perstorp as they advance their demand planning capabilities,” said Stefano Scandelli, General Manager, Manufacturing Business Unit and SVP Sales, EMEA & APAC, RELEX Solutions. “Perstorp will gain the tools to improve process orchestration and deliver measurable value across their supply chain. This project exemplifies how RELEX empowers industrial manufacturers to adapt to dynamic market conditions and achieve their business goals.”
