Norway’s largest pharmacy chain selects AI-driven forecasting and replenishment to build a data-driven planning operation

Apotek 1, Norway’s largest pharmacy chain, has selected RELEX Solutions to unify supply chain planning across their retail pharmacy network and wholesale distribution operations. Apotek 1 will implement AI-driven forecasting and replenishment, introducing a unified platform designed to support data-driven decision-making at scale.

Apotek 1 serves more than 29 million customer visits annually across 460 pharmacies, covering prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and retail health and wellness goods. They manage approximately 16,000 SKUs across two distribution centers. With a strong focus on operational efficiency and continuous improvement, Apotek 1 needed to give its logistics teams greater independence in driving system development and reduce reliance on manual judgment in day-to-day planning decisions.

Apotek 1 selected RELEX for its pharmacy sector expertise, proven scalability, and unified platform spanning forecasting and replenishment, integrated supply, promotions and events, and capacity optimization. The selection also builds on a broader relationship with the PHOENIX Group, Apotek 1’s parent organization as RELEX has been implemented at PHOENIX UKTamro FinlandTamro Baltics, and Nomeco.

“Operational efficiency is central to how we serve our customers and patients,” said Morten Solberg, Chief Logistics & Supply Chain Officer at Apotek 1. “We needed a platform that could keep pace with that goal by bringing automation and AI to our forecasting and replenishment, while giving our logistics teams the tools to drive continuous improvement on their own terms. RELEX gave us the best combination of pharmacy expertise and platform flexibility. By adopting RELEX’s solutions, we will take procurement and supply chain operations at Apotek 1 to the next level.”

Apotek 1 will be able to automate day-to-day ordering decisions across its wholesale network, reducing manual workload and improving planning consistency. AI-driven demand forecasting will account for the distinct patterns of prescription, over-the-counter, and retail health products, including seasonal variation and promotional activity, helping Apotek 1 maintain product availability while keeping inventory levels efficient.

“Apotek 1 has built Norway’s most trusted pharmacy operation on a commitment to quality and continuous improvement,” said Jason Berry, SVP EMEA at RELEX Solutions. “We are glad to support their next step: moving from a legacy system to AI-driven automation that gives their teams real control over planning decisions. This partnership also deepens the relationship we have built with the PHOENIX Group across several markets, and we look forward to delivering the same measurable results here.”
