Frutura to Improve Demand Forecasting for Fresh Produce with RELEX

Austrian fresh produce company to improve forecast accuracy across its supply chain with AI-driven demand planning

Frutura, the largest marketer of fresh fruits and vegetables in Austria and a leading family-owned business, has selected RELEX Solutions to significantly improve demand forecast accuracy with AI-driven capabilities across its operations. The project is being delivered with RELEX partner, Wysupp, who brings expertise to the specific requirements of the fresh produce industry to help Frutura realize the full value of the deployment.

Frutura manages the full fresh produce supply chain, including cultivation, ripening, packaging and logistics. They operate across five locations with approximately 1,000 SKUs moving through a single distribution center. Frutura operates in one of grocery’s most demanding categories, where short shelf life means forecast accuracy has a direct impact on availability, waste, and profitability. To meet the demands of its fresh produce business, Frutura selected RELEX for proven demand forecasting capabilities.

“Forecast accuracy directly affects what reaches our customers and what does not make it to the shelf, which leaves no room for errors,” said Gerald Goldgruber, Head of Process and Master Data Management, Frutura. “RELEX will give us the ability to run calculations multiple times a day, which means we can respond to demand signals in near real time, which is something that was not possible before.”

RELEX demand forecasting uses AI and machine learning to capture the full range of demand drivers, including weekday and seasonal variations, short-life product behavior, and distribution center constraints, recalculating forecasts multiple times a day. This gives planners continuous visibility into shifting demand patterns, enabling faster replenishment decisions and reducing the risk of both stockouts and excess stock.

“Fresh produce is one of the most demanding categories in grocery planning with short shelf life, volatile demand, and no margin for error. The forecast determines availability and waste, and so, we are proud to support Frutura in building a more accurate, responsive forecasting process,” said Michael Hoffmann, Senior Vice President, DACH, RELEX Solutions.

“Fresh produce does not forgive planning errors. Every unsold strawberry and every missed replenishment have an immediate impact,” said Jörg Kriekhaus, Managing Director, Wysupp. That is precisely why Frutura is not a project we can approach from the standard playbook. Our goal is clear: better results for Frutura, less waste, with availability held at the same high level.”
