REMA 1000 to Expand Use of RELEX with AI-Assisted Diagnostics

One of Norway’s largest grocery chains expands use of the RELEX unified platform to reduce stockouts, cut spoilage, and free planners from manual root cause analysis

REMA 1000, major Norwegian grocery retailer, has expanded their use of RELEX Solutions. Building on a relationship established in 2022, REMA 1000 is adding RELEX AI-assisted Diagnostics to automate root cause analysis and give their supply chain and buying teams faster, clearer direction on where to act. This will complement their existing use of forecasting and replenishment, as well as space and floor planning.

REMA 1000 operates approximately 690 franchise-based stores across Norway, offering customers a simplified assortment of around 5,000 SKUs at consistently low prices. As a soft-discount grocer, they require precise inventory control because too much stock drives waste and ties up working capital, while too little means lost sales. Identifying the root causes of stockouts and spoilage across their large franchise network has historically been a manual process.

With RELEX Diagnostics, REMA 1000 can automatically analyze data to find the root causes of stockouts, spoilage, and inventory imbalances, then receive targeted recommendations so planners can act quickly. This builds on REMA 1000’s existing use of space-aware replenishment and integrated space planning, where shelf allocation decisions and local assortment choices are already connected to replenishment outcomes. Using purpose-built AI Agents and next-generation Gen AI capabilities, REMA 1000 can monitor, analyze, and correct performance across the full planning cycle within a single platform.

“Managing replenishment across our many stores means that there is always a lot to keep track of,” said Line Aarnes, Director of Category and Procurement, REMA 1000. “When there are stockouts or unexpected spoilage, finding the cause can be time consuming but with RELEX Diagnostics, that analysis happens automatically, so our teams can focus on acting rather than investigating. That speed matters when you are trying to keep shelves full and prices low.”

“Root cause analysis is a task that is genuinely satisfying when you get it right, but it takes time, and time is something supply chain teams rarely have to spare,” Johanna Småros, Co-founder and Chief Sustainability Officer, RELEX Solutions. “REMA 1000 has built an impressive planning operation over the years, and adding RELEX Diagnostics means their teams can move straight from spotting an issue to fixing it, without the manual detective work in between.”
